The Somali wild ass is native to the Horn of Africa. It has a light grey coat, a white belly, and unmistakable zebra-like stripes on its legs.
There are no more than 200 mature individuals left in the wild, and the population continues to decline due to climate change and hunting.
Today, it is the most endangered equid species, which makes its presence in wildlife parks essential for conservation efforts.
According to the IUCN, the Somali wild ass is currently listed as Critically Endangered.
